When we talk of National development, it is the capacity of the country to raise the standard of living of its residents.
It can be achieved by providing individuals with basic livelihood requirements and providing them with employment opportunities. Development is a process that creates growth, brings in progress and positive change.
Ghana as a country is faced with serious developmental issues, and one can prove this just with the living conditions of Ghanaians as we speak.
The rate of unemployment in the country keeps on increasing day in and day out, which does not portend well for the future we all desire as citizens but I wish to reserve this topic for another day.
Recent articles I read from seekersnewsgh.com and other sites indicates that, the youth employment agency is set to recruit about 5,000 younger senior high school graduates as Senior High School Nurses to assist nurses in the various Chip compounds in the Ghana.
Other articles goes on to indicate that, they will be paid with Gh400.00. I don't have issue with that, however I Bro. Samuel write to challenge the rational behind this preposterous decision, because Nursing in any form is a professional career that requires technical knowledge and hence must be respected as such.
What type of children are you going to employ as the student nurses, because I know for sure that all those that passed and passed well will wish to continue their education. Are you therefore proposing that it's those that fail their wassce and can't get admission into even a training college that you're going to employ? I leave that question for the gods.
Moreover, it will be a serious form of disrespect on the part of students that have gone through the needed levels of education/Nursing training, and taken their licensure examinations and are yet at home unemployed. I shudder to consider what will make somebody think of recruiting such unqualified and incompetent young men and women in place of professionals who are sitting home idle, not to provide any other service but one as delicate and complex as health. These health professionals are individuals the state has spent money on to undertake the very function will wish to give this unqualified SHS graduates.
I personally think, employing these children into the chip compounds in stead of professional nurses is never a good idea, it is perilous and a threat to the health of the citizens of our dear country.
I'm Bro. Samuel mean no harm, I only write to propose or suggest for future development
