THE POWER OF POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT

As the school year draws to a close, students in Ghana's basic schools are getting ready to take on one of the biggest obstacles to their academic success: the BECE exams. In order to inspire and support our younger ones in realising their full potential during this crucial time, Bro. Samuel, the founder and president of Higher Heights Foundation, is sending a heartfelt message of encouragement to all schoolchildren as they begin this demanding task. He emphasises the significance of a positive mindset, efficient study techniques, and self-care strategies.

A cheerful outlook has a significant impact on academic success, according to research. According to studies, students who approach exams with confidence and optimism frequently surpass their colleagues. Students who have self-confidence are more likely to continue, show resilience in the face of difficulties, and keep a growth mentality. A positive outlook is something that Bro. Samuel Obeng Badu encourages our kids to have since it allows them to reach their full potential and overcome any challenges that may arise.

While having a good outlook is important, you also need to use efficient study methods. Numerous tactics that improve learning and retention have been discovered through research. Active recall is one of these methods, which involves actively recovering data from memory as opposed to merely examining it.

Active recall techniques include the use of flashcards, practise tests, and concept summaries. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that spaced repetition, which entails reviewing material at ever-increasing intervals, dramatically enhances long-term recall. Students can maximise their study time and improve their exam success by using these methods, which have been scientifically demonstrated to work.

Students must put self-care first when under the stress and strain of exams. Academic performance and physical and emotional well-being are correlated, according to research. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are all essential elements of a healthy lifestyle that have an immediate impact on cognitive functioning. Additionally, students' general well-being and exam performance can be significantly improved by taking breaks during study sessions, practising relaxation strategies like mindfulness or deep breathing, and indulging in hobbies or activities that make them happy and reduce stress.

Utilising support systems and asking for assistance when necessary is a crucial component of exam success. According to research, social support is crucial for lowering stress and anxiety levels. Our BECE candidates can get their fears under control and obtain insightful or helpful advice by talking to family members or teachers. Additionally, asking for assistance from instructors and tutors can give students the clarity and direction they need to get through any obstacles they may encounter.

Bro. Samuel concluded by advising students to prioritise self-care, keep a happy outlook, use efficient study techniques, and seek support as needed when they begin their exams.

Keep in mind that you are competent, tenacious, and deserving of achievement. Take care of your health, have confidence going into tests, and believe in yourself. Wishing you luck as you take your examinations, dear BECE students.

It's time for you to shine because you worked so hard to prepare!
