This dilemma is particularly pronounced among we the unemployed youth, where economic hardships are a daily reality for many of us.
In countries such as mine, the pursuit of financial success often takes on a different meaning. Instead of chasing after material wealth for the sake of luxury or status, individuals are driven by the need to provide for their families and secure a better future for themselves and their loved ones.
The hardships faced in these countries where my country Ghana is not an exception can be overwhelming, with limited job opportunities, high cost of healthcare even though there is what we call national health insurance, and widespread poverty creating significant barriers to success. Securing a job in this country after completing the University is also another tedious work on its own.
Unless someone tells me that, the Universities we have as well as the other academic institutions are not producing the youth needed for the job market and when you say that, I will then tell you to close the Universities in the country down because it has lost the script upon which it was established.
Despite these challenges, many individuals in this country have adopted the mentality of "chase the bag regardless" as a means of survival. This phrase encapsulates the idea of relentlessly pursuing financial opportunities, no matter the obstacles that stand in the way.
One of the key factors driving this mentality is the desire for upward mobility and economic stability. In low-income countries like my country Ghana, the gap between the rich and the poor is often vast, with limited opportunities for social mobility.
As a result, individuals are motivated to chase after financial success in order to improve their quality of life and break free from the cycle of poverty that has plagued their communities for generations.
Furthermore, the concept of chasing the bag regardless also speaks to the resilience and determination of the youth in Ghana. Despite facing immense challenges and setbacks, many individuals refuse to be deterred from their goals and continue to push forward in pursuit of financial success.
This unwavering commitment to their dreams and aspirations is a testament to the strength and tenacity of the human spirit.
"CHASE THE BAG" this mentality and struggle has caused lots of negative consequences for the youth of mother Ghana. The relentless pursuit to create or secure job or for financial success has lead to burnout, stress, and a lack of work-life balance.
Some youth here in the country end up sacrificing their physical and mental health in order to meet their financial goals, leading to feelings of emptiness and dissatisfaction. I ask again what has gone wrong.
I, Bro. Samuel then again would like to state that, the hardships the youth are facing here in Ghana are immense, but the mentality of "chase the bag regardless" offers a glimmer of hope in the face of adversity.
I do agree to the fact that, by embracing this mindset and persistently pursuing financial opportunities, some of the youth are able to carve out a path towards a brighter future for themselves and their families, how just three out of ten turn out to be successful someway somehow. Then again what has gone wrong.
My name is Bro. Samuel. I mean no harm, I only write to suggest for future development.
