BARNABAS MENSAH'S UPDATE ON UGSRC ELECTIONS AND TRANSMISSION/HANDING OVER CEREMONY

Dear students, my office with UGSRC Executive Committee (hereinafter referred to as EXECOM) members, has sighted a circulating issuance communicating wrongly the position of the UGSRC Executive Committee on the SRC election and transitioning process.

On the back of that misleading issuance purporting to have come from Kwame Amo Ntow Fianko, comes this clarity to all students.

For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that, the actual UGSRC EXECOM (as enclosed in article 14 of the UGSRC Constitution) in our latest meeting consented to collaborating with all relevant parties to execute the road map as will be published by the committee set up by the Dean of Student Affairs.

That resolution is in tandem with the Dean's directive in a meeting prior to the formation of the adhoc committee.

Also, UGSRC EXECOM has taken notice of the interlocutory injunction placed on the SRC transitioning process by the Accra High Court of which copies have been served Regina Apaloo, the offices of the Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students Affairs, Registrar and Electoral Commission, prohibiting the aforementioned parties and stakeholders from transacting any business having to do with SRC handing over.

Thus, EXECOM, guided also by the UGSRC Constitution and the laws of Ghana, will  make no such  attempt to peddle illegalities that will contradict the Dean's reasonable directive or subvert and undermine the will of University of Ghana students.

It may be inferred that, that issuance is not a true reflection of the discussions and resolutions of the actual UGSRC EXECOM, rather, a deliberate ploy by some person(s) to dent the reputation of the SRC and spark confusion among students.

Persons who are in the business of impersonating SRC executives are cautioned to put immediate end to that, otherwise will attract the accompanying penalties when identified.

Whilst waiting for the Dean's Committee Report, EXECOM extends its assurance to all students that in its pursuit to promote and uphold proper student governance, it will ensure that no hall of residence is disenfranchised in future election of SRC executives.

For now, it should be reechoed that Daniel Obeng Asamoah, Stephanie Naadu Antwi, Prince Asumadu and Wisdom Ndukwe remain the elected UGSRC executives as declared by the UGSRC Electoral Commission.

The Executive Committee of UGSRC ceases this space to also wish all students a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year. Make the most out of your time and stay safer as you celebrate the season.

We promise to bring you up to speed on all relevant matters even before school officially resumes.

Regards,

Barnabas Mensah

Ag. SRC Vice President
