IF GOVERNMENT FAILS TO PAY THE SALARY OF EVEN ONE (1) PUBLIC SECTOR WORKER IN 2022 WILL FACE OUR WRATH. ADAM-GH & COALITION WARNS.
Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana ADAM-GH and Coalition Against the Leadership of TUC and Organized Labour is highly disappointed in Ken Ofori Atta and government for the continuous disrespect shown to public sector workers.
We were astonished to hear the Finance Minister once again threatening not to pay government workers he already messed-up their lives with this inhumane salary increment of 4% and 7% for 2021 and 2022 respectively and since his government took over in 2017.
This kind of disrespect to workers by this government is now becoming one too many and must be resisted.
The Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta used the same threat when he met with our corrupt Union leaders at the tripartite committee meeting where he told them if workers refused to accept the 4% salary increment for 2021 and 7% for 2022, there will be retrenchment or workers will be laid off.
August this year another threat was issued that if by January and public sector workers do not have Ghana card they will not be paid and we had to fight this until that directive was withdrawn.
Now budget approval and it rejection saga happened and Ken Ofori Atta cannot threatened the MPs and Ministers who are rejecting the budget that they will not be paid by January if the E-Levy is not approved but rather chose to threatened public sector workers who he finds it convinient all the time to be disrespecting. Jumping to public sector workers again warning us over things that we do not have control, that our January 2022 salary is subject to the approval of the E-Levy and the budget further confirmed how this government keep on disregarding public sector workers.
1. Why has non- payment of workers salary and laying off workers become the order of the day anytime this government want to make reference to Ghanaian public sector workers?
2. Why can't government and Ken Ofori Atta threatened the MPs and Article 71 Office holders of non payment of their salaries in 2022 if the E-Levy is not approved?
3. Why can't Ken Ofori Atta threatened the Executives (Presidency) over the USD$ 488,620,900 equivalent to 3 billion Ghana Cedis funds allocated to the Presidency in 2022 a lone?
4. Since when did the introduction of new taxes (E-Levy) determined payment of workers salary?
5. You failed to increase workers salary and yet you want workers to squeeze water out of stone to pay E-Levy to determines their January 2022 salary who are already over burdened with numerous other taxes such on their meager take home salaries?
6. A government that made alot of noise to Ghanainas about her commitment to protect the public purse through relentless fight against all forms of corrupt practices and thereby save Ghana alot of money have ironically supervised the loss of *33 billion Ghana Cedis* through corruption. What measures are being put in place to stop this scandalous act instead of threats of withdrawal of salary of Ghanaians because of a controversial E-Levy?
7. Since when did Workers become enemies to this government? When indeed in opposition you went round begging for money from these same workers including Kayeye who contributed money to support your Campaign?
We are therefore sending this caution to government that until all government V8s are parked due to no money for fuel, Article 71 Office holders salary payment seized and all the 33 billion Ghana Cedis stolen money by your appointees is retrieved, government should not dare fail to pay even one public sector worker's salary in 2022.
Financial Irregularities per the Auditor General's Report from 2016 - 2020 highlights some irregularities cited below, the differences of which is worthy of note to the public:
In 2016 an amount of Gh718.085 million, Less than a billion suffered this fate .
2017-Gh12.002 billion
2018 - Gh3.007 billion
2019 - Gh5.468 billion
2020 - Gh 12.856 billion
The Financial irregularities in 2017 had seen an unimaginable increase of about 1570% over that of 2016.
Per the Analysis, between 2017 and 2020 (the last 4 years) of this Administration, Financial irregularities alone amounted to Gh33 billion. My gracious! These are clear cases insensitivity and recklessness in leadership and it is obvious we are being lead to our grave.
And yet the President is going about enjoying with chatted flights as if to say "NOTHING IS WRONG" and Ghanaians are quiet. We are even being asked to pay more through E-levy to be stolen.
Can Ghana continue to endure such broad daylight stealing? I doubt. Ghanaians must rise up now or never.
